Is this to encourage more text or more images?
Where people are saying that Twitter is making a major shift in how it counts the characters in tweets, we perceive it as a major shift in allowing more image and video content on timeline than text. We have heard that Twitter will soon stop counting photos and links in 140 characters, this means, brands will share more photographs and videos with ease. Isn’t this a step towards encouraging more visuals on timeline?
Twitter was started with a distinguished feature of 140 characters that made it stand apart from all the other social networks. It is the fastest medium to disseminate any news or information. We can have a lot more information on Twitter timeline in one scroll than facebook and that’s what makes it ready and quick source of information.
Now with this new change, we are sure brands would be sharing more and more image tweets or rather the same posts that they have designed for other mediums and we will be having less number of text tweets. From digital media agency’s point of view, this feature is a great change and we would warmly welcome it in our day to day practices for having integrated communication of all channels. As far as individual tweeples are concerned, they love the 140 characters limit so much that text is and would always be there first priority. Sharing links and images is just a once in a while affair and it would be eased with the new change.
